Bluefield College's strategic plan serves to remind us of our priorities as an institution.

It exists to focus our efforts and resources, strengthen the mission, ensure that the campus community is working toward common goals, and establish agreement around those intended outcomes. It shapes and guides who we are, who we serve, what we do, and why we do it, with a focus on the future.

Strategic Priority No. 1

Bluefield College will develop an academically prepared student and graduate.

Performance Objectives

  • Expand the services and resources available through the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) that enhance student academic success.
  • Develop a common first-year experience for incoming freshmen that spans Orientation days, freshman orientation, introductory general education courses, the Core, and transferable skills training through ACE toward developing both vocational and academic skills necessary for success in sophomore through senior year.
  • Full implementation of the Quality Enhancement Plan “The Confident Communicator” throughout the Traditional Program.

Strategic Priority No. 2

Bluefield College will promote its mission and grow its enrollment and financial resources.

Performance Objectives

  • Promote the mission, programs and services of the College to the community and surrounding region through the Fine Arts, camps and other outreach activities.
  • Provide best-practice in financial aid to enhance student recruitment, assist families in financial planning, and minimize student debt.
  • Increase traditional enrollment by 5% and online enrollment by 5% each year for the next five years, as well as increase traditional freshman retention rate to the national average of 68%.
  • Increase alumni giving participation by 3% over the next five years to 15%.
  • Grow the endowment of the College through planned gifts by $1,000,000.
  • Complete phase one of the Health & Wellness Complex and construct the next phase of campus housing.

Strategic Priority No. 3

Bluefield College will implement unique intellectual curricular and co-curricular experiences.

Performance Objectives

  • Develop servant-leaders through strategies that inspire a conversation on vocation and calling as a central element in the College’s curricular and co-curricular processes.
  • Embed service learning opportunities into the College’s curriculum.
  • Improve educational quality by integrating current and implementing new co-curricular components into academic programs.
  • Implement an efficient and effective communication network.
  • Utilize complete and timely communication necessary to effectively govern the institution through shared governance.
  • Establish the New Opportunity School for Women as a regionally acknowledged program.
