Where did they find or nurture these passions? At Bluefield College, a private Christian college located in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of southwest Virginia. Bluefield College is dedicated to helping students explore, find, nurture, and live their passion.

Most students at Bluefield College find their passion in the classroom, where the college offers 22 majors of study, including business, communications, exercise and sports science, criminal justice, teacher education, behavioral science, and Christian studies. Some of the most recent degree programs added to meet the demand and passions of today's high school graduates include forensic science and graphic communication.

In addition, BC pre-med programs in biology or chemistry, coupled with transfer agreements with Virginia's Edward Via Osteopathic School of Medicine and the Appalachian School of Pharmacy, pave the way for students to transition to medical college or pharmacy school. Or, if it's the other way around, and you're looking to transfer from a community college, BC maintains articulation agreements with six community colleges and academies and any college within the Virginia Community College System, making the transition seamless.

If you just can't wait to explore your passion, BC offers a dual enrollment program for select high school students, or if the traditional classroom setting is just not for you, Bluefield offers three flexible, convenient degree-completion programs in management, criminal justice, and behavioral science for working adults and students with families.

It's not just any classroom, either. The BC classroom is one that U.S. News and World Report ranks among the Top 50 Colleges in the South in its "America's Best Colleges: 2011." Touted for its classroom technology, personalized instruction, and learning settings on the mission field and in countries abroad -- like China and Thailand, where the college maintains exchange program agreements -- the BC classroom is where passions are discovered.

"While at Bluefield College, I had the opportunity to complete internships and serve as editor of the school newspaper and co-editor of the college's literary magazine," said BC 2008 communications graduate Charly Markwart. "In all of these activities, my professors gave me the freedom to learn independently while still providing me with an essential support system. The nurturing encouragement helped me to constantly strive to reach my potential, both as a student and as a person. I am content with my college career, not only because I feel prepared for my future, but, more importantly, because I know that I left Bluefield a stronger, wiser and better person."

But, it's not just the classroom that brings students and their passions together. Some discover their passion in the athletic arena as part of one of BC's 13 intercollegiate sports teams for men and women, including men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's basketball, men's baseball, women's softball, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's golf.

The college will add intercollegiate football to its athletic offerings in the fall of 2011, bringing its sports total to 14. In fact, in the past five years alone, BC has added six new sports for students.

Since 2007, the men's baseball has earned four straight National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) World Series bids, including an NCCAA national championship in 2009 and national runner-up in 2010. The men's basketball team has earned six National Association of Intercollegiate Athletic (NAIA) National Tournament invitations in the last nine seasons, and women's basketball set a school record for wins (24) in a season in 2009-2010. In addition, the men's golf team won six consecutive conference championships, 1997-2002, and the men's and women's soccer teams combined for nine post-season conference awards in 2009.

Other students find their passion in performance as a member of one of the college's four voice ensembles, three instrumental music groups, or two theatrical troupes, while others find that passion in service to the community or on mission at home or abroad. In fact, the college is a three-time winner of the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for its exemplary service efforts and a current NAIA "Five Star Institution" for exemplary character and service. In addition, in the past five years alone, BC students have participated in eight mission trips to Austria, Peru, China twice, South Africa, New York City, Brazil, and Europe.

"Every day I reflect on something I learned during my years at Bluefield College," said 1996 teacher education graduate Tamara Short. "Now, as a health and physical education teacher, I am challenged daily to listen to and advise young adults with many problems. Bluefield College prepared me to be a good listener and a professional. I appreciate the confidence instilled in me by the wonderful instructors. I recommend Bluefield College to anyone. The small class sizes, coupled with caring and superior instructors, cannot be equaled by larger, impersonal schools."

So, what's your passion? Whether it's a passion to learn, compete, perform, lead, worship, serve, or simply belong, Bluefield College is committed to your pursuit of passion. Come find it, nurture it, live it at Bluefield College.
