David Olive - Biography
David Olive has over 15 years of experience in higher education, the majority of that experience in Christian higher education. He began his service at the College in July 2007. Since his arrival, the College has embarked on a new strategic plan – Imagining Our Future; developed a new Campus Master Plan; initiated construction on a new residence hall – East River Hall; and launched a capital campaign – Capturing the Imagination.
Prior to his arrival at Bluefield College, David was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Adult Programs at Pfeiffer University, a Methodist-related university in North Carolina. He has also served in various roles at Carson-Newman College, Tennessee Tech University and The University of Tennessee. In addition, David has practiced law and served as an associate and interim pastor.
David received his Bachelor of Science degree in business management at Tennessee Technological University, his Doctor of Jurisprudence from The University of Tennessee College of Law, and his Master of Divinity at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
He is an ordained minister in the Baptist faith tradition and, as president, is a member of the International Association of Baptist Colleges and Universities. He serves on the Boards of Directors for the Council of Independent Colleges of Virginia, the Virginia College Fund, the Appalachian College Association, and the Appalachian Athletic Conference. He also is a member of the Rotary Club of Bluefield, WV.
David enjoys constructing things, biking with his children, and snow and water skiing. He is married to Kathryn Robinson Olive, a stay-at-home mom and school volunteer, and they have two children, Kayla and Will.
