David Olive - Biography
David Olive has over 20 years of experience in higher education, the majority of that experience in Christian higher education. He began his service at the College in July 2007. Since his arrival, the College has embarked on two strategic plans; developed a Campus Master Plan; constructed a new residence hall (East River Hall) and an apartment complex (Bluestone Commons); renovated Shott Hall and Harman Chapel; and recently started a Master’s degree program in Teacher Education.
Prior to his arrival at Bluefield College, David was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Adult Programs at Pfeiffer University, a Methodist-related university in North Carolina. He has also served in various roles at Carson-Newman College, Tennessee Tech University, and The University of Tennessee. In addition, David has practiced law and served as an associate and interim pastor.
David received his Bachelor of Science degree in business management at Tennessee Technological University, his Doctor of Jurisprudence from The University of Tennessee College of Law, and his Master of Divinity at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
He is an ordained minister in the Baptist faith tradition and chairs the Council of Independent Colleges of Virginia and the Appalachian College Association, is past chair and president of the International Association of Baptist Colleges & Universities, is on the executive committee for the Virginia College Fund, and is on the board of directors for the Mid-South Conference and the Appalachian Athletic Conference. He is also a member of the Rotary Club of Bluefield, West Virginia, and participates as a member of the Jenzabar President’s Advisory Council.
David enjoys constructing projects, snow and water skiing. He is married to Kathryn Robinson Olive, and they have two children, Kayla and Will.
